## What is homepage sponsorship?

Homepage sponsorship is a brand placement on a platform's most-visited page: a sponsor's logo in a fixed position every visitor sees, bought for a period rather than per click. It buys recognition, measured on reach and lift, not clicks.

Also called: Homepage takeover, Sponsors bar.

A takeover is the loud version: the whole homepage dressed in one brand for a day. A [sponsors bar](https://business.daily.dev/homepage-sponsorship.md) is the quiet one: a permanent strip of logos with the words "made possible by", shown on every visit for a contracted period. Both are brand products; neither is a performance channel.

The value comes from frequency and context. A developer who opens a platform several times a day sees the sponsor every time, in the place they come to keep up. Over a month that becomes recognition, and recognition is what makes a later campaign, a docs visit or a conference booth land.

It suits brands that want to own a category in developers' minds, and launches that want a halo rather than a flash. Measure it with brand lift and share of search, and remember that 95% of B2B buyers are out-of-market right now (LinkedIn B2B Institute / Ehrenberg-Bass, the 95-5 rule): sponsorship is how they remember you when they are not.

## What are the forms of homepage sponsorship?

- **A sponsors bar:** a fixed strip of logos on the homepage, "made possible by", shown on every visit for a contracted period, with one headline sponsor in colour and supporting sponsors beside it.

- **A takeover:** the homepage dressed in one brand for a day, usually for a launch.

- **A masthead or hero slot:** a large placement at the top of the page, bought by the day or week.

The bar is the steady form and the one most developer brands get more from, because recognition is built by repetition. The takeover is an event; it makes a launch loud for a day and is forgotten by the next.

## What does homepage sponsorship buy, and what does it not?

It buys recognition: a developer who opens a platform 6–7× a day sees the sponsor each time, in the place they come to keep up, for a month. It buys association with the platform and standing with its readers. It buys credibility for the rest of the campaign: the in-feed post from a sponsor is read differently from one by a stranger.

It does not buy clicks, and there is no click dashboard. A sponsor logo is not a call to action. Brands that judge it by clicks cancel after a month; brands that judge it by lift and by what happened to their other campaigns renew.

## How do you measure homepage sponsorship?

By contracted reach and frequency, by brand lift (aided and unaided recall, consideration) measured before and after, by share of search for your brand against the category, by direct and branded-search traffic during the period, and by the performance of your in-feed and newsletter campaigns while the sponsorship runs against the weeks before. The last is the measure most teams forget and the one that usually makes the case.

## Who should buy it?

Brands that want to own a category in developers' minds, challengers that need to be seen as established, and launches that want a halo for a month rather than a spike for a day. It assumes you already have the performance layer: a page, posts in the feed, a landing that converts. Sponsorship makes those land; it does not replace them. And it plays the long game: 95% of B2B buyers are out-of-market right now (LinkedIn B2B Institute / Ehrenberg-Bass, the 95-5 rule), and the sponsor is who they remember when they are.

**Common mistakes**

- Judging a brand placement by clicks.
- Buying a one-day takeover and expecting recognition.
- Sponsoring the homepage with no page or posts behind it.
- Skipping the before-and-after lift measurement, then having no case to renew.

**How developers experience it**

- They see the sponsor every time they open the app, and after a month they could name it.
- They read "made possible by" as a fact about who supports the platform.
- They notice a logo that fits the bar and forget one that shouts.

### Frequently asked questions

**What does homepage sponsorship buy?**

Visible, repeated association with the platform developers use every day: recognition, category ownership and credibility for everything else you do there. It is not bought for clicks and has no click dashboard.

**How is homepage sponsorship measured?**

By contracted impressions or reach, brand lift studies, share of search and the performance of your other campaigns while the sponsorship runs. Clicks are not the measure.

**What is the difference between a takeover and a sponsors bar?**

A takeover is a one-day event for a launch; a sponsors bar is always-on presence for a month or more. Most developer brands get more from the steady version, because recognition builds with repetition.

**How long should a homepage sponsorship run?**

A month at minimum, and a quarter to see lift move. Recognition is a function of repetition, and one week of logos is forgotten by the next.

**Is a logo spot included in daily.dev Ads plans?**

Yes. Every plan includes a logo spot in the sponsors bar; the headline position in colour is a separate monthly contract.
